It’s not shame for MP with a small Myvi

Newly elected Sungai Petani MP from Parti Keadilan Rakyat said he is in his second thoughts about placing his parliamentary crest on his number plate as people may not believe this car (a Perodua Myvi) belongs to a MP when answered a question asked by the reporter. However, he further added that he is proud to drive a national car and there is no need and not necessary to change car.

This question arose when Johari parked his nearly 4 years Perodua Myvi alongside luxurious cars like Volvos, BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, Pajeros and etc at the parking lots reserved for MPs outside Parliament house yesterday. It seems weird that a MP will drive a Perodua Myvi in Malaysia.

Yes, its truth that common people will never believe that a MP will drive a local small car. This comes from the perception that MP is always rich people with Datuk and Datuk Seri titles. MPs equal to wealthy man is an irrefutable presumption as we can see from previously House of Representative, more than 90% of the MPs are very rich, even who was a gatekeeper for KTM turned to be owner for a multimillion-worth bungalow situated in Klang Valley (unfortunately, the gatekeeper-turned-politician died before he could enjoys his extraordinary big bungalow).

Why? Why people will become rich after elected as MP? I do not know. It has to be noted that the MP salary includes their travel subsidies is only around RM10k.

So, I wish to tell Johari that you have no qualms for driving around in your small local car, you also have no doubt to place you parliamentary crest on your number plate. Instead, you should be proud of it as a not rich and ordinary MP who served the people whole heartedly and not for money earning inside and outside the parliament.

Do bring a new fresh to Malaysia.
